Process really matters…

Process really matters…… ¶ Process really matters… ¶ Author: Johnny Celestin ¶ The protests that had brought life to a standstill have stopped and things seem to have resumed to some eerie level of normalcy. This sense of return to normalcy is the result of the selection of Haiti’s new provisional President, Mr. Privet by the National Assembly. However, the astute observers of social and political movements in Haiti know that this is the quiet before the storm.

The Road ahead

Greetings,It is great to have you as followers of Haiti Global. When the idea to start this publication came to mind, I personally think it would be a breeze to find people who are willing to share their stories on Haiti via Medium. ¶ The hope was that Haiti Global (HG) would eventually become a repository online for great stories on Haiti. But, obviously, this has not the case, at least not yet. ¶ What I learned so far is that people like to consume contents more than they like to create them.

Haiti’s Constitutional Crisis

The constitution questionBy Ilio Durandis CJ Contributor ¶ How should Haiti proceed as the mandate of the current president comes to term on Feb. 7thand with no president-elect to assume power? Is the answer in the Haitian constitution, political consensus, through the people’s representatives in parliament, the international community intrusion, or a magical mixture of them all? ¶ Over the last few weeks, as Haiti entangles itself in a deep political and constitutional crisis, many groups have come out their shell…

With Haiti Elections Cancelled, Negotiations Begin for What Comes Next

Author: Jake JohnstonSecond-round presidential and legislative runoffs, scheduled for Sunday January 24, were abruptly cancelled on Friday, less than 48 hours before polls were to open. Ruling-party backed Jovenel Moise was set to face off against Jude Celestin, who had pledged to boycott the race. Protests against the election increased throughout the week, culminating in a massive demonstration that made its way to the headquarters of the electoral council (CEP) on Friday morning.
